Wills

We have much experience in preparing Wills.

Our discussions may encompass former marriages or relationships as well as the relationship with any present partner, children by those former marriages or relationships as well as children with any present partner, property abroad, second homes and capital gains tax issues, care costs in nursing homes and local authority support, inheritance tax, business succession if you run your own business and indeed, every aspect of your financial position, both now and anticipated.

Although you can buy simple Wills from us as stated below if your situation is extremely uncomplicated, a meeting is really advisable if any of the above situations apply.

We will explain the mechanics of obtaining grant of probate to your Estate once you are deceased, the usual course of administration of that Estate and help you decide on your choice of executors (these being the people whom you appoint to deal with your financial and other affairs after your death).

To summarise, a Will can be

  • a simple document for a single person with no children and modest assets

  • a "mirror-image Will" or "mutual Will" for "husband and wife with 2.2 children, a dog and a mortgage"

  • a complicated document involving trusts (secret or express), Inheritance Tax planning and dealing with any or all of the situations that will affect your Estate after you are deceased.

Enduring power of attorney - at the same time as preparing your will, we will discuss with you whether you wanted a trusted relative or friend empowered to deal with your affairs should you become mentally incapacitated.

Planning for an infirm old age - almost everyone worries about how they will cope financially if they have expensive nursing home fees to pay. We can introduce you to Independent Financial Advisers who can help you plan for this uncertain future.
